David Collier OBE tribute
The hockey world is sad to hear that David Collier OBE has passed away. David spent his life making hockey better for everyone, from the local pitch to the world stage.
David started as a top-level umpire, traveling the world to officiate matches and was an active member of the NPUA throughout his career. After he stopped umpiring, he didn't leave the sport. Instead, he became an Umpire Manager and Assessor. He was known for being "firm but fair," always helping younger umpires improve their game.
David was also a techincal official and worked at major events like the Commonwealth Games and the World Cup.
David wasn't just on the sidelines; he helped run the sport. He held high profile roles at England Hockey and Great Britain Hockey and was the head of the FIH Rules Board.
Even after he retired, David kept helping others through charity work with the Hockey Umpiring Trust and the Lord’s Taverners.
He will be greatly missed by his children, Simon, Zoe, and Mark, and by his many friends in the hockey family.
