4 Champions Crowned In Notts Sport Boys Schools Championship Finals

Even though the sun wasn’t shining over Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre yesterday, the competitions kept the spectator's blood flowing with gripping and exciting matches.

The Notts Sports Boys Schools Championships kicked off with the U16 Tier 2 final, it took Dean Close School's Henry Swan 14 minutes to sneak one past Archie Stone from Bromsgrove School.

Harvey Heavan extended the lead for Dean Close School with just a few minutes left in the first half. The second half really heated up as Dean Close School scored another 5 with goals from William Waltham, Captain Kasper Philip-Sorenson, Artur Daenart and Henry Swan. The match ended 7-0.

The second match of the day was U16 Tier 1 final, Repton School opened up the score sheet with a goal in the 11th minute from Augustus Wenham, Conor Yap equalised for Whitgift in the 34th minute. Both teams fought tirelessly for the next 30 minutes but it was Wilf Snashall for Whitgift who scored the final goal sealing the deal for Whitgift.

The U18 T2 final brought the crowds as Bradfield College faced Magdalen College School in what turned out to be a nail-biting and gripping affair. It was Bradfield College's Louis Sheffield just 8 minutes who hit the net first, the second came from Captain Thomas Creighton taking his team into the second half in the lead. Alex Laird was inspired by the half time talk and got Magdalen College School back in the game. After an intense 24 minutes, Louis Sheffield snuck another past goalie Will Slatter making the score 3-1 to Bradfield College. Two minutes later Will Laird retaliated bringing Magdalen College School within 1. It was James Coles who scored next and as the crowd erupted Magdalen College School celebrated equalising. In the 70th minute, Bradfield College got a yellow card giving Magdalen College School a player advantage, Freddie Mcelwaine-Johnn capitalised scoring the winning goal for Magdalen College School.

A goalless first half had the U18 T3 final fans on the edge of their seats. Both teams were eager to score to give their team an edge. In the 46th minute, Piers Copeland found the back of the net for Newcastle-under-Lyme School. Both teams continued to battle it out but Oliver Powers made sure his team took home the cup, the game ended Kimbolton School 0 – 2 Newcastle-under-Lyme School.
