Old Georgians enjoyed a successful return to action in the Men’s Premier Division, stretching their lead at the top to five points following Saturday’s floodlit action.

The leaders bounced back from a slow start to beat Hampstead & Westminster, who took a sixth-minute lead through Matthew Guise-Brown.

James Tindall’s brace saw the hosts wrestle back momentum before the break and Tom Carson’s 49th-minute strike sealed a 3-1 success for the hosts.

Holcombe took their strong form from the end of last year into the start of the new one, defeating Wimbledon 1-0 to dent their visitors’ title ambitions.

Nick Bandurak slotted home from a 57th-minute penalty corner to settle the outcome and secure Holcombe’s sixth win in a row.

Wimbledon are now five points behind the leaders and were leapfrogged by Surbiton, who moved into second courtesy of a dramatic 2-1 win at East Grinstead.

Gareth Furlong gave the hosts a 44th-minute lead but the hosts equalised through Jamie Wallace with four minutes remaining.

The celebrations were short-lived, however, as Luke Taylor struck two minutes from time to ensure the visitors left with all three points.

In the bottom tier of the Premier Division, Brooklands MU picked up a valuable point in their battle to avoid the drop as they drew 2-2 at home against Beeston.

Andrew Rusbridge gave the hosts an early lead but Josh Pavis found the net either side of half-time to turn the game on its head, only for Peter Flanagan to equalise just past the hour mark.

Brooklands are now level on seven points with University of Durham, who went down 3-1 at Oxted.

Matt Dobison cancelled out Cam Heald’s opener but two goals in three minutes from Sam Driver and Lucas Ward put the home side out of reach.

Bottom side University of Exeter restart their campaign next weekend.

Division One North

The clash between bottom and top went the way of the form book as Loughborough Students won 4-1 at Sheffield Hallam to stay a point clear at the summit. University of Nottingham remain on Loughborough’s coattails following their 4-2 win at Deeside Ramblers while Ioan Wall scored all four goals as third-placed Cardiff & Met beat Peterborough 4-2. Bowdon overcame in-form University of Birmingham by the same scoreline and Olton & West Warwicks edged a mid-table battle 1-0 at Cambridge City.

Division One South

Leaders Reading were beaten in a seven-goal thriller at Teddington, who ran out 4-3 winners in one of the games of the weekend. Reading’s advantage has now been cut to six points as second-placed Canterbury came back from Sevenoaks with a 3-2 success. Team Bath Buccs won 5-2 at Southgate while the battle of the bottom two went the way of Brighton & Hove, who beat Havant 3-1 to leave the visitors still without a point. Old Cranleighan and Oxford Hawks shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.

Conference East

A last-gasp leveller from Charlie Brooke earned London Wayfarers a point at home to leaders Old Loughtonians in an entertaining 2-2 draw. Spencer leapfrogged their West London rivals Richmond into second courtesy of an impressive 5-2 win and, at the other end, Hampstead & Westminster 2s gave their survival hopes a boost with a tense 1-0 win at fellow strugglers West Herts. The victors are now level on points with Indian Gymkhana, who went down 3-1 at Wapping.

Conference Midlands

Harborne remain top after emerging victorious from a rollercoaster encounter with Bedford, eventually winning 7-5. The leaders were 3-0 and 4-1 up only for the visitors to fight back and make it 4-4, which was far from the end of the scoring as Harborne picked themselves up to re-establish the lead by the final whistle. Barford Tigers remain two points adrift after a somewhat more routine victory, beating Loughborough Town 5-0. Harleston Magpies defeated Khalsa Leamington 6-3 in another thriller, while Lichfield downed Cambridge University 4-1 and St Albans beat University of Birmingham 2s 2-0.

Conference North

Belper cemented their position at the top after coming from behind to win 3-1 at University of Durham 2s. They now hold a four-point advantage over both Timperley, who missed the chance to go top on Saturday evening as they went down 3-2 at Wakefield, and Didsbury Northern following their 5-3 victory over Alderley Edge. Doncaster’s promotion hopes took a dent as they were held to a goalless draw by bottom side Beeston 2s and there was also a draw at Leeds, who shared four goals with Preston.

Conference West

There was nothing to separate the top two in a pulsating contest, with Fareham and University of Bristol drawing 3-3 to keep the former a point clear at the top. Isca are now just a point further back after dispatching Ashmoor 4-0, leapfrogging their opponents on goal difference in the process. University of Exeter 2s remain without a win this season but picked up their sixth draw, taking home a point from a 2-2 draw at Chichester, while Plymouth Marjon put valuable distance between themselves and the bottom two with a 2-1 win at Cheltenham. The trip over the Severn Bridge was a successful one for Cardiff University, meanwhile, as they won 3-1 at Clifton Robinsons.
