Squad announced for Men's World Cup 2023

England Hockey is delighted to confirm the team selected to represent England in the FIH Hockey Men’s World Cup in India, which takes place from 13-29 January 2023.

In this, the 15th edition of the Men’s World Cup, England’s squad combines experience with exciting talent, and they hope to continue their progress following a successful Commonwealth Games this summer.

For nine of the squad, it is their first World Cup: James Albery, Nick Bandurak, David Goodfield, James Mazarelo, Nick Park, Ollie Payne, Stuart Rushmere, Tom Sorsby and Sam Ward. The others were all part of the team that came fourth last time out in 2018, and for Harry Martin and David Condon they will be competing in their third World Cup.

David Ames returns from some time out due to injury, to captain the team, with James Albery and Zach Wallace as vice-captains. The highly experienced Brendan Creed and Ian Sloan will be travelling as reserves with the squad.

"I have had the opportunity to see the growth of the squad this year and I know those selected will be determined to put in a level of performance that improves on the last World Cup in 2018."
