Junior Hockey Framework - Community Groups

A new approach to supporting delivery of hockey to 5-11 year olds within communities.

SHARE

To make hockey more visible, relevant and accessible to all young people, we need to go beyond places where traditional hockey is played and expand our engagement with community groups and doorstep clubs.

Whilst we have a network of hundreds of amazing hockey clubs, we recognise that to reach our under-represented audiences, we need to take hockey to the young people and facilitate inclusive playing opportunities in an environment where they feel comfortable.

Community groups and doorstep clubs aim to remove barriers to participation such as time, cost and travel. By empowering leaders from within communities, we can offer an informal, flexible and fun introduction to hockey which can be adapted to meet the needs of the young people.

Benefits for Community Groups

  • Training through StreetGames’ Hockey Activator course
  • Accessible, age-appropriate delivery content that can be used as part of a multisport offer, or standalone hockey sessions.
  • Opportunity to introduce a new sport to young people, with clear delivery support.
  • Links to hockey clubs and schools through the Junior Hockey Framework

Partnerships with National organisations such as StreetGames will help us make progress in this environment, but we’re also keen to work with smaller, localised groups as well.
