Head of Hockey
Millfield School Street, SomersetMillfield School is seeking an exceptional Head of Hockey to lead and inspire our hockey programme for boys and girls from Year 9 to 13.
This full-time role offers an exciting opportunity to shape and deliver a comprehensive and ambitious programme that nurtures players of all abilities — from enthusiastic beginners to high-performance athletes — while reflecting Millfield’s values of excellence, inclusivity, and enjoyment.
Reporting to the Director of Sport, you will take overall responsibility for the strategic leadership and day-to-day delivery of the hockey programme — from planning and coaching to competition management and player development. You will lead and inspire a team of coaches and interns, creating a cohesive, supportive, and safe environment where every student can thrive. Building strong links with Millfield Prep, external clubs, National Governing Bodies, and universities in the UK and USA will be key to sustaining Millfield’s outstanding performance pathways and helping athletes successfully transition beyond school.
The successful candidate will bring:
- EH Level 3, EH ACP graduate, or FIH Level 3 (or above) qualification.
- Proven experience in leading a hockey programme and managing teams, athletes, and staff.
- Excellent organisational, leadership, and communication skills.
- A dynamic, energetic, and personable approach to coaching and mentoring.
Desirable attributes include a strong understanding of the school and club hockey landscape, experience in high-level playing or coaching environments, and familiarity with the US university system.
This is an all-year-round position working an average of 42 hours per week. In return, we offer a salary of £39,000-£45,000 per annum, commensurate with experience, 10 weeks’ holiday (to be taken outside of term time), freshly prepared lunches for £10.30 per month, investment in your professional development, and access to school facilities and wellbeing benefits through our Employee Assistance Programme.
