Sir William Borlase’s Grammar School - Hockey Coaches 2025/26: Zero Hours Contracts

Sir William Borlase's Grammar School is looking for experienced coaches to join the Borlase Hockey coaching team for the 2025/26 season.

The school has a rich hockey pedigree with a membership of around 320 players and a number of junior internationals amongst the current students and alumni.  Borlase Hockey has just experienced one of its most successful seasons with three teams reaching the national finals.

The school runs hockey as an extracurricular activity for all students across the autumn and spring terms, with training sessions and fixtures taking place from 4pm-6pm every weekday evening at Marlow Sports Club.

We also run a comprehensive Indoor hockey program from September to April for all age groups.

The roles available are as follows:

  • Lead and assistant coaches for school outdoor sessions and fixtures on weekday afternoons from 3.30pm-6pm. This will involve planning and delivering training sessions, coaching and managing teams on match days, including travelling away to opposing schools, umpiring fixtures and selecting teams on a weekly basis.
  • Lead and assistant coaches for school indoor sessions and fixtures.  This will involve planning and delivering training sessions, coaching and managing teams on match days, including travelling away to opposing schools, umpiring fixtures and selecting teams on a weekly basis.


Details:

  • Hours are expected to be between 8-16 per week during the autumn and spring terms
  • Sessions run between 3.30pm-6pm Monday to Friday. Wednesdays from 2pm and travelling away for fixtures hours can be extensive.
    Hours are term time only. There may be extra hours in the school holidays for camps and preseason sessions.
  • Competitive rate of pay depending on coaching/experience level.

  • We have close links with Marlow Hockey Club if the right candidate was looking for more coaching hours

Specific Responsibilities:

  • To lead and assist the coaching of various age groups to a high standard.
  • To show a commitment to safety.
  • To undertake training and constructively take part in team meetings.
  • To be committed to the school’s core values and ethos and to demonstrate this commitment in the way duties are carried out.
    To maintain confidentiality and ensure that duties are undertaken with due regard to and compliance with the Data Protection and Equality Act at all times.
  • To carry out duties and responsibilities in accordance with the school and Academy Trust’s Health and Safety Policy and relevant Health and Safety legislation.
  • To demonstrate consistently high standards of personal and professional conduct; showing tolerance and respect of the rights of others whether other staff, students or parents.
  • To observe proper professional boundaries and having regard to the safeguarding and wellbeing of students.
  • The post holder is responsible for ensuring all child protection policies are adhered to and that any concerns or incidents are raised in accordance with these policies.


We are looking for applicants to:

  • Be confident and experienced at communicating with young people and fellow coaches.
  • Have experience at working as part of a team.
  • Motivate and educate players whilst working in a culture driven and principle based environment.
  • Have some knowledge of the England Hockey coaching framework, structure and principles.
  • Be organised, on time and able to have positive communication with parents.
