St Albans HC: Head of Youth Hockey
St Albans Hockey Club Oaklands College Campus, St Albans, Hertfordshire.St Albans HC formed in 1898, is a thriving, friendly and ambitious club, supporting playing, spectating, coaching and officiating activities for all levels and ages. We currently run 18 teams for men and women, with 350+ senior members and 400+ youth members. We also run summer hockey, holiday camps and disability hockey. We are a Talent Certified Club.
We are seeking a dynamic, engaging and highly organised Head of Youth Hockey to lead the delivery of our established outstanding youth hockey programme.
Remuneration: £5,000, plus the opportunity to earn extra through delivery of extra coaching sessions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the strategic development and ongoing improvement of the youth coaching programme in line with the Club’s 5 Year Plan and England Hockey Talent Certification
- Model and deliver high quality and engaging coaching sessions
- Recruit, support and develop volunteer and youth paid coaches and administrators
- Promote youth leadership within the club
- Manage, oversee and review the Youth Budget and support the development of additional coaching programmes
- Develop and manage communications for the youth section and support the Age Group Admins/Managers
- With the management team, develop and maintain a structured transition pathway, ensuring players are confidently and successfully integrated into adult hockey
- Ensure inclusive provision across the youth section, creating opportunities for participation and development
- Maintain a clear and current understanding of safeguarding requirements and club policies
Commitment: Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Sundays, but there is some flexibility. Some supporting of youth cup matches is required.
Skills and Qualities Required:
- This role is ideal for a strong and energetic leader who is passionate and has a keen interest in youth hockey development, coach education and talent pathways.
- Experience of strategic leadership of a large volunteer organisation is desirable.
- You have a commitment to supporting other coaches, your written and verbal communication and organisational/admin skills are a real strength.
- You hold or are working towards a recognised hockey coaching qualification.
