Player Profile
Few athletes have enjoyed quite the whirlwind start to their international career as Fiona, who within a 10-month period went from being a member of the GB Elite Development Programme to an Olympic bronze medallist.
The tough-tackling defender burst onto the international scene in late 2020, making her senior GB debut against the Netherlands in the FIH Hockey Pro League. Despite the magnitude of her opponents, the young defender was unfazed and helped the team — missing 10 players through injury — secure a creditable draw.
Having been rewarded with a full-time place on the programme in January 2021, she quickly established herself as a pivotal player in the GB set-up, making her senior tournament debut with England at the 2021 EuroHockey Championships before going on to win bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Games just weeks later. She had already captained England's U18 team to bronze at the 2018 EuroHockey Youth Championships while a student at Durham University.
Her rapid rise continued into 2022, when she played in her first World Cup and won gold at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games that summer. In December 2022 she was selected for the FIH Pro League tour of Argentina, where she picked up her 50th combined GB/England cap. The Durham University graduate has continued to be a regular through the Pro League seasons since.
