Paul Revington's side enter the third/fourth place match after an unfortunate semi final reverse against Australia on Saturday evening. This is the men's team's fifth consecutive bronze medal match at the Commonwealth Games, having earned third place in both 2018 and 2014, while losing in 2010 and 2006. It's South Africa's first appearance at a bronze medal match since losing to Pakistan in 2002.

England finished second in Pool B after winning three games and drawing one, while South Africa progressed with seven points in Pool A, crucially beating New Zealand in the final Pool match to make the last four for the first time in two decades.

England and South Africa faced each other in London recently in the FIH Hockey Pro League, England prevailing 4-2 and then 3-0 over the course of a weekend. The last meetings before then were in Cape Town in 2017, with England coming through 1-0 and 5-2.

England's Nick Bandurak currently leads the tournament scoring chat with 11, two ahead of India's Harmanpreet Singh.

The tournament has seen some amazing hockey, with England backed by incredible crowds at the University of Birmingham. And with an average of 7.04 goals per game in the men's event so far, those fans have certainly seen their fair share of goals!
