UK School Games 2011 Recruitment

UK School Games are looking to recruit a welfare officer for 2011 hockey competition at Sheffield.

To liaise with the Welfare Coordinator and the Team Managers (as required) prior to and during the UK School Games to ensure the welfare of competitors throughout the event
To have read and be familiar with the content and procedures regarding the UK School Games Welfare Plan
Ensure an understanding and awareness of their own NGB safeguarding and welfare policies and procedures
To support all participating athletes at the UK School Games to achieve their sporting aims

Person Specification

Ideally, to have a counselling qualification, be a teacher, social care worker, police officer or hold similar professional qualification OR have at least two years experience of safeguarding and child protection work within a sports setting
Have attended the sports coach UK Safeguarding and Protecting Children Workshop or Time to Listen Workshop, within the last three years
Have an understanding of the issues affecting children and young people and the sensitive way in which these issues must be managed
Understand  the implications of protecting children and young people at the UK School Games
Able to communicate with children and young people
Understanding and appreciation of the need to respect confidentiality
In line with the UK School Games Welfare Plan pass on all concerns that may arise
Able to follow procedures and work closely with the Welfare Coordinator and the welfare team at the UK School Games
Appropriately challenge those who do not comply with the UK School Games Welfare Plan
Attend the necessary training and undergo an enhanced CRB Disclosure

NB The Welfare Officer will be accommodated in the Athlete’s Village for the duration of the UK School Games in line with the Welfare Plan.
