People Development Through Free Learning

Supporting and developing the people around the players

SHARE

The 2025/26 season marked a transformational shift in how we support the vital network of hockey volunteers, coaches, and officials across England. By moving to a membership-funded model, we have removed the financial and administrative barriers to development, ensuring high-quality learning is accessible to everyone.

Empowering Your Club to Thrive

We understand that coaches, officials, and welfare officers are the heartbeat of our sport. Helping ensure everyone experiences a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment helps our members be the best they can be - keeping the hockey family coming back week after week. By providing free learning on the Hockey Hub, we are helping clubs:

  • Elevate Standards: Ensure your team is up to the latest best-practice standards, building a reputation for a safe and welcoming environment.
  • Retain Great People: Showing volunteers, they are valued through free development helps retain your best people and attracts new members.
  • Boost Finances & Efficiency: With no costs for essential training, your club saves money to reinvest elsewhere, while centralised booking makes administration simple.

A Modern Experience for Our Learners

We didn't just make our learning free; we made it better. Following a full review of all content to maximise engagement and enjoyment, our learners now experience:

  • Accessible & Flexible: A blended approach of e-learning and facilitated online modules that suits your schedule.
  • Relevant & Meaningful: Content based on real-life scenarios and practical ideas directly linked to your specific role.
  • Boosted Confidence: Interactive breakout rooms and group discussions designed to solve common club challenges.
  • Networking & Certification: Opportunities to share best practice with others from around the country and a formal certificate to acknowledge your development.

Engagement & Impact

The results from the first six months show a community that is eager to grow and protect the game. By removing the cost barrier, we have seen a record-breaking surge in engagement with 79% of the total club network accessing learning during this period.

  • Exceptional Reach: 4,597 people have accessed free learning, with 2,987 of those joining live, facilitated online sessions.
  • A Safer Game: We have reached 4330 learners through our new Safeguarding Awareness module (either as part of a workshop or course or as a standalone e-learning module) reinforcing our commitment to a safer environment for all.
  • Impact Across Our Products:
    • Umpiring: 1,864 new Umpire Level 1 participants.
    • Coaching: Over 750 coaches engaging across Junior, Sessional, and Coaching Club Teams learning.
    • Safeguarding: In addition to the 4330 learners, a further 547 volunteers completed 'Time to Listen' training and/or our new Safeguarding in Hockey workshop.
