A short guide in how to get involved as a Technical Official

Technical Official at Hockey Futures Cup 2019

Do you have:

  • A good understanding of the game of hockey, its rules and regulations?
  • An ability to stay focused?
  • Accuracy to record keep?
  • The ability to develop rapport and show empathy with players, coaches, team managers and umpires?

Can you be:

  • Firm, fair and flexible in approach?
  • Confident but not dogmatic?
  • Official, without being officious?

Then you already have all of the skills that some of our best Technical Officials have, so why not join them?
Domestically, nationally or internationally, you could work indoors or outdoors with both genders, at all levels of the game.

Taster sessions are available throughout the season, delivered by friendly, experienced members of the England Hockey Technical Appointing Panel (TAP). Over the session, they lead you through the “game day” duties you would undertake in officiating and introduce you to a mentor for your first real life “game day” duties.

If you would like to join a taster session, please e-mail officiating@englandhockey.co.uk for more details.
