We have an exciting opportunity, for an enthusiastic coach to coach Neston Ladies 1’s and 2’s in their 24/25 campaigns. Our Ladies 1’s play in the North West Premier League. This year’s focus was to stabilise and rebuild, and the priority is for the team to stay in the regional Premier League. Our Ladies 2’s play in North West Division 3 and are aiming for a mid-table finish. We are aiming to recruit a coach who is committed to helping both teams flourish.

Neston Hockey Club is situated on the Wirral, just over the Cheshire border. In addition to our hockey facilities, we have cricket, tennis and squash. There is a stunning clubhouse, bar and bistro, which hosts events throughout the year.

Our Ladies 1’s and 2’s are a friendly and committed group, all passionate about their hockey, with a great mix of younger talent and experienced players. We now need the right person to encourage and unlock the potential within the squad, with the ambition of securing a top-end table finish for the Ladies 1’s and promotion into North West Division 2 for the Ladies 2’s. 

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement a pre-season training programme which would include fitness, training sessions and friendlies.
    Attend all Ladies 1’s league matches, home and away (predominately on a Saturday). This could be flexible for the right candidate.
  • Coach one (2hrs) session midweek working alongside an experienced and knowledgeable assistant coach. Pre-season training normally starts first week of August and continues through until the end of March.
  • Fair and objective selection, alongside the club and team captain.
  • Help bring through our younger players and provide feedback and development opportunities for the whole squad.
  • We’d also like you to work in partnership with the other coaches, sharing insights and ensure the higher-playing teams are fully aligned.
     

About you

  • Candidates would preferably have a Level 2 UK coaching qualification, or would be keen to work towards it. We would also be looking for experience as either coach or player at a high level.
  • Appropriate first aid and safeguarding training
  • Eligible to work in the UK.
  • Any successful candidate would be subject to a DBS check.
  • We are looking for candidates with good communication skills, great tactical knowledge and an understanding of the physical and mental demands of sport at this level.

This role is offered on a self-employed basis and the start date is end July/start of August, depending on candidate availability.
