One of the most exciting forwards in world hockey, Will Calnan has made plenty of people take notice since making his international debut in June 2018. A natural finisher, he netted 10 goals in five games for England at the 2017 U21 Euros before finding the target for the senior team twice at the 2018 World Cup, his first major international tournament — two goals on his World Cup debut that remain a career highlight.
He also produced two brilliant finishes for GB against the Netherlands and Germany in the 2019 FIH Hockey Pro League, and helped Hampstead & Westminster to a first Men's Hockey League title that same year, scoring in the semi-final. He served as a reserve for GB at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
With pace to burn and a sharp sense of humour, already an established England and Great Britain international by 2022, Will helped England to Commonwealth Games bronze in Birmingham that summer. He went on to represent England at the 2023 World Cup in India and the 2023 EuroHockey Championships.
Calnan made his Olympic debut at Paris 2024 and has continued to add to his combined England and Great Britain cap tally, which stood at 94 as of his last published update, through subsequent Pro League and EuroHockey Championship campaigns. He returned to Surbiton for 2025-26 after spells with Hampstead & Westminster, Southgate and Dutch side HDM.
