England Off To Euro Hockey ID Championships

The England Hockey Intellectual Disability Team (ID) will be competing at the Euro Hockey ID Championships 2022 in Amsterdam, from 6-9 July.

Hockey ID is the adapted format of hockey for players with an intellectual disability. Played 6-a-side across half a traditional hockey pitch, the Championships will see the best Hockey ID athletes from nine nations across Europe come together and compete for gold.

This is a landmark occasion as it will be the first official England ID team traveling to represent the country as England Hockey continue to deliver our E,D&I Framework.

Since the open selection event and numerous team training days, excitement is ramping up within the squad as they will face Czech Republic and Ireland on the divisioning day. This is where teams and players are assessed to ensure they are matched with other nations of the same experience and competitive ability for the remainder of the competition.

Following divisioning, the Euro Hockey ID Championships will see nations placed into the Championship, Trophy or Challenge tier, where teams play a round robin tournament with others in their tier. The top two teams then progress to the final of their tier.

The Championships are taking place at Pinoke Hockey Club, with the finals being held at Wagener Stadium. This is the national stadium of the Dutch Hockey Federation and the location of the FIH Women’s World Cup. With both events sharing the venue , European hockey family wish to demonstrate its continued commitment to ensure hockey is an inclusive sport for all.

We send our congratulations to the athletes selected to represent England.
