Twickenham Stoop Specific FAQs
-
Because ticket sales have been far lower than we anticipated for this weekend. We had a fantastic response in the ticket ballot but unfortunately that hasn’t turned into sales. The fact it’s a double bank holiday in half term and international travel restrictions have been lifted have been key factors for sure. This all means the games aren’t economically viable and we have to protect our ability to keep investing in all areas of the sport.
-
Our Hockey Family ticketing discount window closed at the start of May, and that gave us the clearest picture of sales. We wanted to give supporters the best opportunity to buy tickets – especially with discounted prices – and once that window ended we have moved as quickly as we could to make an announcement.
-
We were indeed aware of the extra bank holiday, and in order to assess demand we held a ticket ballot, which gave us the confidence to go back to the Stoop. Unfortunately those sales did not transpire which led to the decision to move the games to Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre.
-
For a number of reasons that wasn’t possible; most of all finding a suitable location big enough to house everyone who has bought tickets. And we felt that moving at this stage from London to elsewhere wouldn’t be fair on those who bought tickets. We do have the women’s European qualifiers in Durham later this summer and of course the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in the summer so it’s exciting to see hockey move around the country.
-
Both parties are fully committed to the relationship. This year has been an exceptional one and we are working on how best to bring back Big Stadium Hockey in 2023 and beyond.

General FIH Pro League FAQs
-
The FIH Hockey Pro League is the annual global League involving the best men's and women's national teams in the world. The team that finishes top of the league at the end of the season is crowned champion and receives the FIH Hockey Pro League Trophy.
Each team will play against each opponent in the league twice in each season, playing 16 games in total. However, instead of playing one game home and away, the hosts are rotated on a bi-annual basis. So, for example, if England/Great Britain were playing The Netherlands, they would play two games against them at home in one season and two games away the following year.
It’s action-packed, international rivalries are at their fiercest and the season promises to be an exciting forerunner to the 2022 Commonwealth Games and World Cups. In short, it’s hockey at its best.
