Jacob Payton is a graduate of the University of Exeter, having progressed through the England and GB U21 set-ups. He signed for Surbiton for the 2024-25 season on his return to England from university.
He was added to the Great Britain senior programme in December 2024 and made his full senior England debut shortly afterwards, on 12 December 2024, during the opening leg of the FIH Pro League in Argentina, scoring his first senior goal against Spain in the second leg in India.
Payton was selected for England's squad at the 2025 Men's EuroHockey Championship and has continued to build his senior caps through the 2025/26 Pro League season as part of the group preparing for the 2026 FIH World Cup.
