Zach Wallace

Midfielder - Senior Men

Player Profile

Nationality England
Position Midfielder
Debut 16 October 2018
Club Bloemendaal HC
Date of Birth 29 September 1999
Age 26

From an early age Zach Wallace had been highlighted as a player to watch, and is certainly living up to that billing with his consistently dazzling performances on the biggest stage. He barely missed a game since making his international debut in October 2018, appearing at a World Cup and two EuroHockey Championships with England before starring as GB finished fifth at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. He was nominated for the FIH World Young Player of the Year award in 2019.

A supremely talented player, Zach offers an abundance of threat going forward and can often be found dancing and weaving his way past opposing defenders — and sometimes pulling off 3D skills in front of his own goal too. His family are his biggest supporters, and his brother acted as his mascot during the FIH Olympic Qualifiers, running out and standing alongside him during the national anthems.

Already an established international heading into the cycle, Zach helped England to bronze at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and went on to win silver with England at the 2023 EuroHockey Championships, having also featured at the 2023 World Cup in India. He made his second Olympic appearance at Paris 2024, serving as vice-captain of the Great Britain squad and a member of its leadership group, having first competed at Tokyo 2020.

Wallace has since taken on the captaincy of both the England and Great Britain teams, and was described by England captain David Ames as the side's "Michael Jordan of hockey" following his performances at the 2023 World Cup. He continued to lead the side through the 2025 EuroHockey Championships and into the build-up to the 2026 FIH World Cup, playing his club hockey for Dutch Hoofdklasse side Bloemendaal.
